In times of suffering and darkness, when the world is overshadowed by war and injustice, it is through acts of self-offering that the light of Christ continues to shine. This truth was made powerfully visible in the ministry of the parish stewards and faithful of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Parish in Trenton, New Jersey, who recently packed and shipped over ten pallets of vital medical and humanitarian supplies to the embattled people of Ukraine.
Under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Fr. Roman Marchyshak, the parish community came together - heart, mind, and soul - to live the Gospel not merely in words, but in concrete action. It was not a task of convenience or comfort, but one of sacred responsibility and self-offering, the very heart of Christian stewardship.
“Our faith is not something we simply speak,” Fr. Roman reminded the volunteers.
“We are called to live the Gospel of truth. When we serve in His Name, when we offer our hands, our time, and our hearts, we become the living icon of Christ in the world.”
These words resounded in the hearts of all present as each box was packed with love, each package carefully placed on the truck bound for Ukraine - not just as supplies, but as visible signs of the invisible grace of God.
The dedicated parishioners of Holy Trinity Parish demonstrated that true Christian stewardship is not limited to financial contributions or mere participation in liturgical life - it is a lifelong ministry of self-offering, responding to the needs of others as an expression of faith in action.
With deep reverence and prayer, His Eminence Archbishop Daniel traveled to Trenton, NJ to join the parish family in their sacred labor. Together with clergy and laity, he offered a prayer of blessing over the shipment, invoking God’s protection upon the people of Ukraine, especially the wounded soldiers, orphaned children, and displaced families who suffer daily from the brutal invasion.
The Archbishop, joined by Rev. Fr. Maxym Zhuravchyk of the Annunciation of the Birth-Giver of God Ukrainian Orthodox Mission of Charlotte, NC, and Subdeacon Andrii Akulenko of St. Sophia Ukrainian Orthodox Theological Seminary, spoke words of profound gratitude:
“What I see here is not simply people packing boxes. I see the hands and hearts of the Church, the living Body of Christ, bringing hope where there is despair. This is the Gospel preached without words - a sermon of mercy, of compassion, of sacrificial love.”
With heartfelt emotion, Fr. Roman Marchyshak offered sincere gratitude to the parishioners of Holy Trinity - the stewards whose time, talents, and treasure made this mission possible.
“Your self-offering is a sermon the world desperately needs to hear. You have responded not to a call of comfort, but to the cry of suffering. You are living the Gospel, embodying Christ’s compassion for the wounded and the forgotten. You are His hands and His heart.”
Fr. Roman also extended appreciation to Archbishop Daniel and the leadership of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA for their unwavering love and continuous support for the people of Ukraine, both through spiritual guidance and humanitarian aid.
The generous donation of medical supplies by National Sales LTD ( a premier surgical and medical equipment supplier that provides a combination of durable and professionally refurbished medical equipment) made this mission possible, but it was the hands and hearts of the parish stewards that transformed this donation into a living offering of mercy, a true Eucharistic act of thanksgiving poured out for the sake of others.
At the conclusion of the service, Archbishop Daniel presented each volunteer with a commemorative award (Ukrainian Trident with the Logo of the UOC of the USA) established by the Council of Bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA - a token of the Church’s deep appreciation for their ministry in this time of war. These awards serve as a visible reminder that in moments of great need, it is often the small, humble acts of service that bear the greatest witness to the love of Christ.
In a joyful prayer, the Archbishop proclaimed: “O Lord, bless these stewards who have given so freely of themselves. Strengthen their hands, uplift their hearts, and let their example inspire others to live the Gospel of love and mercy in every moment of life.”
As the truck departed, carrying not only supplies but the prayers, hopes, and love of the Holy Trinity Parish community, a message resounded for all: “We are the living icons of Christ when we serve in His Name.”
May we all be inspired by their example to become servants of hope, stewards of compassion, and living reflections of the Lord’s boundless mercy - for the sake of Ukraine, for the sake of the world, and for the glory of God.
