Spring Valley, CA - In the aftermath of the devastating rainstorms and flooding that swept through the San Diego Metropolitan area, the parish of the Protection of the Mother of God Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Spring Valley, California sustained significant damage to its church building, parish residence, and parish apartments.

Upon learning of the destruction, the Council of Bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA immediately offered prayerful support to the parish family and their pastor, Very Rev. Fr. Myron Mykhayluk. In his capacity as spiritual father of the Western Eparchy, His Eminence Archbishop Daniel traveled personally to Spring Valley to witness the devastation and offer pastoral care and encouragement to the faithful.

Archbishop Daniel was received by parish leadership and faithful, including Fr. Myron, Parish Board President Subdeacon Gary Gebet, and Vera Skop, coordinator of the parish recovery and rescue efforts. Together they toured the damaged parish facilities, including the church temple where flooring has been removed, walls opened, and extensive drying operations are underway following floodwaters and mud intrusion.

Standing inside the damaged temple, Archbishop Daniel addressed the parishioners with words of hope and faith: “The Church is not only walls and floors. The Church is the living Body of Christ. Even in the midst of destruction, I see faith standing unbroken before me…Where the world sees ruins, Christ prepares resurrection.”

Due to the extent of the damage, the Feast of the Theophany of Our Lord according to the Julian Calendar was prayerfully celebrated outdoors. Despite the hardship, the parish family gathered in unity for worship, blessing of water, and prayer.

Following the meeting with the congregation, Archbishop Daniel joined the faithful for a fellowship meal under a tent in the parish parking lot, where plans for recovery and rebuilding were discussed, along with reflections on the spiritual, social, and humanitarian responsibilities of the Church in times of crisis.

The Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA now calls upon the faithful and all people of goodwill to offer prayerful and material support to assist the parish of the Protection of the Mother of God in its recovery.

In addition to prayerful support, the Consistory appeals to parishes and individuals to consider offering financial assistance to help the parish recover from this repeated natural disaster. Contributions will be used for urgent repairs, restoration of parish facilities, and to support the parish community as it works toward stability and resilience.

Спрінґ-Веллі, Каліфорнія - Після нищівних злив та повеней, які пройшли метрополійним регіоном Сан-Дієго, парафія Української Православної Церкви Покрови Пресвятої Богородиці у Спрінґ-Веллі, Каліфорнія зазнала значних пошкоджень храму, парафіяльної резиденції та парафіяльних помешкань.

Дізнавшись про руйнування, Собор Єпископів Української Православної Церкви США негайно висловила молитовну підтримку парафіяльній родині та її настоятелю, протоієрею Мирону Михайлюку. У своєму служінні як духовний батько Західної Єпархії, Високопреосвященний Архієпископ Даниїл особисто прибув до Спрінґ-Веллі, щоб побачити наслідки стихії та підтримати вірних пастирською присутністю і словом надії.

Архієпископа Даниїла зустріли парафіяльне духовенство та громада, зокрема о. Мирон, голова парафіяльної управи іподиякон Ґері Ґебет, а також Віра Скоп, координаторка рятувальних та відновлювальних робіт. Разом вони оглянули пошкоджені парафіяльні приміщення, включно з храмом, де було знято підлогу, відкрито стіни та розпочато масштабні осушувальні роботи після затоплення та зсувів бруду.

Перебуваючи у пошкодженому храмі, Архієпископ Даниїл звернувся до парафіян зі словами віри та надії:«Церква - це не лише стіни і підлога. Церква - це живе Тіло Христове. І навіть серед руїн я бачу віру, що стоїть непохитно переді мною… Там, де світ бачить руїни, Христос готує воскресіння».

Через масштаби руйнувань святкування празника Богоявлення Господнього за юліанським календарем відбулося під відкритим небом. Попри всі труднощі, парафіяльна родина зібралася в єдності на молитву, освячення води та спільне богослужіння.

Після зустрічі з громадою Архієпископ Даниїл розділив із вірними братню трапезу під наметом на парафіяльному подвір’ї, де було обговорено плани відновлення та відбудови, а також духовні, соціальні та гуманітарні виклики, які стоять перед Церквою у часи випробувань.

Українська Православна Церква США закликає всіх вірних та людей доброї волі до молитовної та матеріальної підтримки парафії Покрови Пресвятої Богородиці у її відновленні.

Окрім молитовної підтримки, Консисторія звертається до парафій та окремих осіб із проханням розглянути можливість надання фінансової допомоги для подолання наслідків цього повторного стихійного лиха. Пожертви будуть використані на термінові ремонтні роботи, відновлення парафіяльних приміщень та підтримку парафіяльної громади на шляху до стабільності та відновлення.
