In the spirit of Christ’s high-priestly prayer, “that they all may be one” (John 17:21), His Eminence Archbishop Daniel represented the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA at the Ecumenical Prayer Service marking the 58th Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, held at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in New York City. This sacred gathering brought together hierarchs, clergy, and faithful from across the New York and New Jersey metropolitan area, offering a powerful and prayerful witness to Christian unity rooted in the life of the Holy Trinity.

His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros, Archbishop of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, warmly welcomed the ecumenical leaders and faithful into the historic cathedral, emphasizing the Church’s calling to be a place of encounter, prayer, reconciliation, and mutual respect. The prayer service itself was carefully and prayerfully prepared by the faithful of the Armenian Apostolic Church, in collaboration with the Roman Catholic Church, and was subsequently reviewed and finalized by an international ecumenical committee jointly appointed by the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity and the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches.

The theme of the service, “Life from Life, for Life,” carried profound theological and spiritual significance. Inspired by the Christological confession of the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed - the great and shared confession of the Christian faith - the theme echoed the words proclaimed for centuries: “Light from Light, true God from true God.” This confession holds particular importance as the Christian world prepares to mark the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea (325–2025), which affirmed the unity of the Church’s faith in the life-giving Son of God.

Among the distinguished religious leaders in attendance were His Eminence Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York; hierarchs and clergy from numerous Christian traditions; and representatives of religious communities serving the people of the greater New York metropolitan area. Representing the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, Archbishop Daniel stood in prayerful solidarity with all present, offering an Orthodox witness grounded in fidelity to the faith, reverence for tradition, and love for all who seek Christ.

Present at the service were representatives of the Standing Conference of Oriental Orthodox Churches (SCOOCh): His Grace Bishop Mesrop Parsamyan and His Eminence Archbishop Vicken Aykazian - Primate and Ecumenical Officer respectively of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church - as well as priests and deacons representing His Grace Bishop David (SCOOCh President and Bishop of the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of New York & New England), His Eminence Archbishop Mor Dionysios John Kawak (Syriac Orthodox Archdiocese of the Eastern United States), His Eminence Archbishop Petros (Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church Archdiocese of New York & Its Surroundings), His Eminence Archbishop Mor Titus Yeldho (Malankara Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church) and Their Graces Bishop Makarios and Bishop Sinoda of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church Archdiocese of North America & Its Affiliated Regions.

The service was hosted by His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros, Most Honorable Exarch of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. Also in attendance were His Eminence Archbishop Anoushavan of the Armenian Prelacy, His Grace Bishop Gregory Mansour of the Maronite Eparchy of Brooklyn, and the clergy and faithful of a variety of other Christian traditions.

Throughout the visit and during the prayer service, Archbishop Daniel was prayerfully assisted by the Very Reverend Father Vasyl Pasakas, who accompanied the Archbishop and participated attentively in the liturgical and pastoral aspects of the gathering. His reverent presence and devoted service reflected the unity of the clergy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA with their spiritual father, as together they bore witness before the assembled Christian leaders and faithful, embodying the spirit of obedience, humility, and shared ministry that strengthens the Church’s public witness.

During the service, Archbishop Daniel was invited to lead the assembly in intercessory prayer. With pastoral depth and evangelical clarity, he lifted his voice, praying: “Loving Lord, accept the prayers of all Your faithful children throughout the world who call upon You with one voice, one heart, and one spirit. As You promised through Your beloved disciple John, if we walk in Your light, we have communion with one another, and Your precious Blood cleanses us from all sin.”

The gathered assembly responded in unison with the ancient plea of the Church: “Lord, have mercy.”

Continuing the supplication, Archbishop Daniel offered a fervent prayer for peace: “Peace-loving Master, remove all civil unrest and violence from the face of the earth. Change the hearts of all who make war. Touch the wounds of all who are afflicted. Comfort all prisoners of war; speedily bring them home. Let the light of Your love shine in all places of our world, and grant that the nations may dwell in peace and justice.”

These petitions carried particular weight as the worldwide Christian community continues to pray for the people of Ukraine, who endure the suffering of an ongoing and unjustified war. It was especially fitting that these prayers were offered by Archbishop Daniel, whose archpastoral ministry remains deeply connected to prayerful advocacy, spiritual care, and humanitarian concern for the Ukrainian people.

At the conclusion of the service, Archbishop Elpidophoros addressed those in attendance with words of welcome and gratitude, expressing heartfelt appreciation for the prayerful participation of all ecumenical guests. He offered special words of recognition to Cardinal Timothy Dolan, noting his upcoming birthday and his forthcoming retirement from active leadership of the Archdiocese of New York.

As a tangible expression of gratitude and Christian fellowship on behalf of the ecumenical community of Greater New York, Archbishop Elpidophoros presented Cardinal Dolan with a silver pectoral cross - a symbol of faith, continuity, and the enduring witness of the Church across the centuries.

The Ecumenical Prayer Service concluded in an atmosphere of reverence, hope, and shared commitment. Though the journey toward full visible unity among Christians continues, gatherings such as this stand as living testimony that, in Christ, life flows from Life and is offered for the life of the world. United in prayer before God, the Churches bore witness that true unity begins at the altar - where hearts are humbled, wounds are remembered, and hope is renewed in the light of the Risen Lord.

У дусі первосвященницької молитви Христа - «щоб усі були одно» (Йо. 17:21) - Його Високопреосвященство Архієпископ Даниїл представляв Українську Православну Церкву США на Екуменічному молитовному богослужінні з нагоди 58-го Тижня молитов за єдність християн, яке відбулося у Свято-Троїцькому грецькому православному кафедральному соборі в Нью-Йорку. Це священне зібрання об’єднало ієрархів, духовенство та вірних з усього Нью-Йоркського і Нью-Джерсі митрополичого регіону, ставши потужним молитовним свідченням християнської єдності, укоріненої в житті Пресвятої Тройці.

Його Високопреосвященство Архієпископ Елпідофор, Архієпископ Грецької Православної Архієпархії Америки, тепло привітав екуменічних лідерів і вірних у стінах історичного собору, підкресливши покликання Церкви бути місцем зустрічі, молитви, примирення та взаємної поваги. Саме молитовне богослужіння було ретельно й молитовно підготовлене вірними Вірменської Церкви Америки у співпраці з Римо-Католицькою Церквою, а згодом переглянуте й остаточно затверджене міжнародним екуменічним комітетом, спільно призначеним Дикастерією сприяння християнській єдності та Комісією «Віра і Устрій» Всесвітньої Ради Церков.

Тема богослужіння - «Життя від Життя - для Життя» - мала глибоке богословське та духовне значення. Натхненна христологічним сповіданням Нікейсько-Царгородського Символу віри - великого і спільного сповідання християнської віри - ця тема перегукувалася зі словами, які Церква проголошує протягом століть: «Світло від Світла, Бога істинного від Бога істинного». Це сповідання набуває особливої ваги напередодні відзначення 1700-ліття Першого Вселенського Собору в Нікеї (325-2025), який утвердив єдність віри Церкви у Животворчому Сині Божому.

Серед почесних релігійних лідерів, присутніх на богослужінні, були Його Еміненція кардинал Тімоті Долан, Архієпископ Римо-Католицької Архієпархії Нью-Йорка; Його Преосвященство єпископ Месроп ПарсамянВірменської Церкви в Америці; ієрархи та духовенство багатьох християнських традицій; а також представники релігійних громад, які служать людям Нью-Йоркського регіону. Представляючи Українську Православну Церкву США, Архієпископ Даниїл стояв у молитовній солідарності з усіма присутніми, являючи православне свідчення, вкорінене у вірності вірі, пошані до традиції та любові до всіх, хто шукає Христа.

Протягом усього візиту та під час молитовного богослужіння Архієпископу Даниїлу допомагав протоієрейВасиль Пасакас, який супроводжував Архієпископа і уважно брав участь у літургійних та пастирських аспектах цього зібрання. Його благоговійна присутність і віддане служіння стали видимим знаком єдності духовенства Української Православної Церкви США зі своїм духовним отцем, коли разом вони свідчили перед зібраними християнськими лідерами та вірними, уособлюючи дух послуху, смирення та спільного служіння, що зміцнює публічне свідчення Церкви.

Під час богослужіння Архієпископ Даниїл був запрошений очолити заступницькі молитви. З пастирською глибиною та євангельською ясністю він підніс свій голос у молитві: «Ласкавий Господи, прийми молитви всіх Твоїх вірних дітей по всьому світі, які взивають до Тебе одним голосом, одним серцем і одним духом. Як Ти обіцяв через улюбленого учня Твого Йоана, коли ми ходимо у Твоєму світлі, ми маємо спільність між собою, і Твоя Пречиста Кров очищає нас від усякого гріха».

Зібрана спільнота одностайно відповіла давнім благанням Церкви: «Господи, помилуй».

Продовжуючи прохання, Архієпископ Даниїл підніс щиру молитву за мир: «Миролюбний Владико, усунь усякий громадянський розбрат і насильство з лиця землі. Переміни серця тих, хто чинить війну. Доторкнися до ран усіх стражденних. Утіш усіх полонених і скоріше поверни їх додому. Нехай світло Твоєї любові засяє в усіх куточках нашого світу, і даруй народам жити в мирі та справедливості».

Ці прохання мали особливу духовну вагу, оскільки світова християнська спільнота продовжує молитися за народ України, який зазнає страждань через триваючу й несправедливу війну. Було особливо доречно, що ці молитви виголосив саме Архієпископ Даниїл, чиє архіпастирське служіння тісно пов’язане з молитвою, духовною опікою та гуманітарною турботою про український народ.

На завершення богослужіння Архієпископ Елпідофор звернувся до присутніх зі словами привітання та подяки, висловивши щиру вдячність за молитовну участь усіх екуменічних гостей. Він також звернув особливі слова пошани до кардинала Тімоті Долана, згадавши його наближення дня народження та майбутній вихід на заслужений спочинок з активного керівництва Архієпархією Нью-Йорка.

Як відчутний знак вдячності та християнського братерства від імені екуменічної спільноти Великого Нью-Йорка, Архієпископ Елпідофор вручив кардиналові Долану срібний наперсний хрест - символом віри, тяглості та неперервного свідчення Церкви крізь віки.

Екуменічне молитовне богослужіння завершилося в атмосфері благоговіння, надії та спільної відповідальності. Хоч шлях до повної видимої єдності християн і надалі триває, такі зібрання є живим свідченням того, що у Христі Життя походить від Життя і дарується для життя світу. Об’єднані в молитві перед Богом, Церкви засвідчили, що справжня єдність починається перед святим престолом - там, де смиряються серця, пам’ятаються рани і оновлюється надія у світлі Воскреслого Господа.
